What is OverDrive? What is Libby?
Are they the same thing? Which do I use?
Answer
OverDrive is the name of a company that provides a website and borrowing service for some downloadable audiobooks, ebooks, and streaming video licensed by the library.
Libby is the name of an app for using the OverDrive collection on compatible mobile devices. It allows you to checkout and read or listen to the media formats that are compatible with that app. Currently, streaming video is not available in the Libby app, and a couple hundred OverDrive titles are not compatible with Libby and therefore won't show up within the app.
When you go to our OverDrive partner website you see our entire OverDrive collection, including items incompatible with Libby. But the OverDrive website will not show you everything we have through other e-media partners such as O'Reilly, Kanopy, Hoopla, and Flipster. Each partner has a only a part of our online collection.
