Answer

Your priority number for a Libby hold can go up, and you can wait as next in line for longer than 21 days.

When you see that you are getting close to getting a popular Libby title, it can be frustrating to see yourself bumped back in line by one or two. This can happen because of the option to suspend (or freeze) holds.

For example, let's say Adrian placed her hold before Blair placed his. Adrian suspended the hold. Adrian's priority in the holds list continues to be ahead of Blair's, but Adrian's hold is not counted in the wait estimate Blair sees in the Libby app. Blair can see that he's 2nd in line for the next available copy, but if Adrian unsuspends or thaws her hold, Blair's place will immediately increase to 3rd in line.

The length of time you may wait for a title could be up to 24 days per borrower ahead of you: the 21 day borrowing period plus 3 days for notification. A person has 3 days to act on a title when it is their turn for it, and those 3 days are not counted in the 21 days allowed once the title is borrowed.
